Cruise the "Cranberry Highway," where thousands of acres of marshes color the countryside in pink blossoms during summer and red berries in fall. The route runs almost 50 miles alongside marshland, historic sites, museums, markets, shops, and restaurants. Start your Wisconsin vacation north of Madison, Wisconsin, in Babcock with a snack at the Babcock Cafe, known for its cranberry-walnut pies and cranberry muffins. Follow the Cranberry Highway to Glacial Lake Cranberries for a tour during the fall harvest. You can actually overnight among a vast expanse of cranberry marshes in the cozy Stone Cottage on site. Next, pass through Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, and head north to Rudolph for a stop at the Wisconsin Dairy State Cheese Company. See how the cheese-making process works and sample the 'cran-jack' variety. Golfers can detour to The Ridges Golf Course or The Pines at Lake Arrowhead Golf Club. Outdoor enthusiasts will find excellent bird watching in October at Necedah National Wildlife Refuge and, in winter, skiing, tubing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing at Powers Bluff County Park.
