Traveling from Springfield, Missouri, south to Branson, there’s plenty of family fun, Ozark Mountains history, fantastic food, and, of course, fine music---on the fiddle and other instruments. In 1865 Wild Bill Hickok put a single shot through the heart of Dave Tutt. Ponder that moment by standing where they both stood in Springfield’s downtown square or by sipping coffee or a beer in a nearby café or brew pub. Or catch a minor league baseball game at Hammons Field or tour Fantastic Caverns. Wilson’s Creek, minutes south of Springfield, is the site of the first Civil War battle west of the Mississippi. Continuing south on Highway 65, you’ll come to the music and family entertainment capital of Branson, where dinner and a show are musts. Nearby attractions include Silver Dollar City, an amusement park with both down-home attractions and world-class rides, and Table Rock and other area lakes, perfect for boating, fishing, and camping---in a tent or an RV.
