Kingston Cafe in North Shoreview is outstanding for home made soups or chili, excellent sandwiches, and great coffee (made by the cup). A family owned and operated highlight based on good people and good food.

Love the diversity and wide choice of amazing foods throughout San Mateo but the downtown area has so much ambiance to go along with friendly businesses and clean streets. Friendly and safe along with great eats and drinks.

I live near our downtown and LOVE it! I can and do walk myself or take a walk with visiting friends downtown to enjoy either fine dining like Three, Kingfish, Capellini's, Vigonier, The Vault, or Osteria Coppa or a bit more casual places like B St. & Vine (a *fave*...bruschetta sampler a must try!), Curry Up Now (bricks & mortar restaurant of a very popular food truck), dessert at Yogurtville, a Chicago style hot dog at Fletch's, a great lunch spot at Cafe 400 tucked into an office building with patio seating, the comfy foods of Bill's Hofbrau, or a great healthy food option with terrific salads at Fuel, tucked into the Equinox Gym! There are many more downtown too! The diversity and quality of food not only in downtown, but in other little small neighborhood strips such as 25th Avenue or 37th Avenue or 41st Avenue or along the El Camino and in Hillsdale Mall...we've got so many unique and tasty places to's awesome! When I visit family down in parts of Southern California that ONLY has the big box chain restaurants (which we have our share of those good ones too, Cheesecake Factory, Outback, Mimi's, BJ's Brewhouse, Armadillo Willy's, Red Robin, and more if that's your preference!), my palate craves the variety and options available to me here in my own town...particularly those that are independently owned and operated...I love supporting our local merchants and restauranteurs! I know I've left out some worthy places to try, so you've got to check out San Mateo!!
